This is a heavyweight on the PDF creation and edition software cathegory. In fact, the file size is the first piece of evidence of that. But is worth every pound of its weight and every buck of its price. Why is that? Because it does what any other PDF creation and edition can do and some things else. Let's know a little bit more about the features of this “giant”.
PDF to Word conversion: this way, you don't have to worry about editing the PDF document itself. You just convert it into Word format, edit it as you wish and then convert it back to PDF (depending on your needs).
WYSIWYG (What I see is what I get) Content Extraction: this awesome feature let you extract tables in PDF documents and still keep them as tables (or images) in Word and Excel.
Five stars quality conversion: even Adobe Acrobat conversions are nothing in comparison with Solid Converter's. Features like rotated text conversion, text justification, hyperlink retention, table recognition and others make it unique.
Form recognition: for those PDF forms containing editable fields.
PDF creation: through its virtual printer, including drag & drop feature.
Documents combining: lets you merge multiple documents into one.
Watermarks.
Insertion and extraction of pages.
Batch-process conversions: not much seen feature in this kind of soft.
Encryption and decryption: 128 bit encryption supported and permissions can be set.
Compressions tools: to reduce the files size.
As any other complex tool, the first impression you get when you use this tool is that a little bit hard to use and understand. But in fact, is not as hard as it seems thanks to its unique navigation styled interface. Three sections compose the main window: getting started section, wich in turn has three options available: Convert PDF to Word, Convert or Combine PDF and Modify PDF. The second section is News where you'll find quick access to articles showing how to do tasks. The third section is the Learning Center, containing step-by-step tutorial about the three options of the Getting Started section (Convert PDF to Word, Convert or Combine PDF and Modify PDF).
On the right of the main window there's a subsection to batch procession. Every time you pick up a file to process is enlisted on this subsection. You can either process them one at a time or all together.
A weak side of this giant is that only speaks English and Russian and can be kind of a “large” application to get to know and understand.
Regarding to its price, it's offered at a very competitive 99,95 dollars license if you compare its features and quality of work with some other options.
Advantages:
- Supports Windows Vista, converts PDF to Word, extracts tables as tables to Word and Excel
Disadvantages:
- complex tool, few languages supported, marks the documents produced with the trial version
